Your $$$ = My $$$

Have any of our politicians read “Atlas Shrugged” for Pete’s Sake?? OK, gas prices are high. I’ve gone over gas prices in the past and I think have given you all a pretty good covering as to why they are high right now. But in case you don’t remember, let’s cover a few highlights:

1) Supply & Demand. Simple as that.

2)Taxes.

3) Ethanol. Not only does it bump the price of fuel, but it’s having a ripple affect in the food industry.

4) Exploration, drilling and refining of gasoline. Yeah, that simply stalled back in 1970 in this country and we’ve been enriching terrorists for our fuel ever since.

3) Global Warming. Well, not the actual act of supposed global warming, but the craze and hysteria surrounding the farce.

If you’ve been covering Election 2008, you’ve heard these morons (presidential candidates) talking about gas prices, the impact they’re having on the middle and lower class, and what they’re going to PROMISE us in order to get relief to our wallets.

McCain and Clinton are proposing a gas holiday during the summer months, which will suspend the federal tax on gasoline. Obama doesn’t support that idea. This idea, in my opinion, is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The Federal Government uses the tax paid on fuel to finance the interstate system. It pays for upkeep, new roads, widenings, etc, etc, etc. About 13 states (if I remember correctly), specifically have laws relating to the possibility of the government suspending or ceasing the tax on gasoline. The fear in these states (including Tennessee) is that they won’t risk that money not being there for the roads. So if the Federal Government were to give us a tax holiday, and drop the $.18 per gallon they make, then the State tax would automatically bump up to fill that gap. As you can see, the consumer loses. The gas holiday won’t work.

Obama and Clinton support a windfall tax on the Oil Company’s profits, and do you know what they’re going to do with that extra revenue that’s generated? They’re going to give that money to a competing industry.

The leading Democratic presidential candidates want a windfall profits tax to do various things, and although their plans differ slightly they generally want to use the money to give Americans a break from skyrocketing energy prices and jumpstart research into renewable energy.

But while the politicians present their plans, analysts are far less sanguine about whether or not a windfall profits tax would actually help soothe steadily rising energy prices and spur R&D for alternative energy sources.

Can you imagine being a peanut farmer. You’re farm is doing great, and you’re producing bushels and bushels of peanuts. All’s well. But your farmer neighbor has a soy bean farm, and he’s just not doing as well as you. You’re making loads of money, but your neighbor is barely squeezing by. So what would you say if the government came in, taxed your profits more heavily and just GAVE it to your neighbor, who isn’t as good at farming as you, and who doesn’t have as good of a product as you? Do you see how abhorrently wrong that would be?

What my question is, who does the Federal Government, and these damn democrats think they are that they can TAX PROFITS ON ANYTHING MORE THAN ANOTHER PRODUCT? Why are you singling out products to have differing tax rates? That’s socialistic! That’s communistic! It’s certainly NOT AMERICAN! Tax on cigarettes is high, the government says, to encourage people to quit. WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE??? It’s none of your business that people smoke, and it’s flat out WRONG to tax something higher for any reason. Let’s get back to the basics here people. How have we let our government have so much control over our lives; what we consume; how we eat, sleep and work?

Can you imagine what our country will be like in 5+ years of Obama or Clinton win this election? I can offer you a sneak peek: Atlas Shrugged. Go read it. Go borrow it from the library. Find a friend who has it. Something. Just read it. It was written in the 50’s, but I swear it is prophetic. The things that are happening in this country right now lead right up to Atlas Shrugged.

As much as I dislike John McCain, and even though I vowed to not vote for him, I simply cannot stay home on election day and let my vote be wasted on Clinton or Obama. They will ruin our country. And a windfall tax on fuel is just one piece to their huge puzzle.
