Fired Up

I haven’t been very involved in things political for quite some time now. While I follow politics in the news on a daily basis, I’ve basically regressed into a watcher status simply because I don’t feel that my passions one way or the other make a whole heck of a lot of difference in this world. If I get mad about politics, so what? I feel completely disconnected from our current political environment and share no values that our country seems to currently hold.

I couldn’t believe that this country elected a democratic majority party in both the house and senate much less elected a socialist for President. It was at that point that I sort of gave up; why waste my energy on this? But Sunday, things changed for me. While I still completely feel the disconnect, I no longer desire staying out of the game. I have never in my life been more fired up about becoming involved in our political process because this is a hinging moment in our Nation’s history that will either tip us down an irrecoverable interstate of socialism or back down the path of freedom, independence and states rights.

We all know the debacle that is this Obama Care that our nation is faced with, so I’m not going to spend my energy tearing it apart. What I will do is focus on the complete unconstitutionality of the fact that never before in our Nation’s history has the Federal Government REQUIRED an individual citizen to purchase a product. Even it it wasn’t unconstitutional, I’d like to explain my position on Health Care “Reform” and why I think any federal intervention is wrong for America.

Health Care is often confused with Health Insurance. They’re two completely different things. Modifying the Health Care industry is a completely separate battle from modifying Health Insurance. Anyone can walk into a hospital today and not be denied Health Care. Health Care is the service you get at your doctor or hospital that treats your illness. It’s very simple. Health Insurance is a product you (or your employer in most cases) purchases that redistributed the costs and burden among a group so as to bring individual out of pocket costs down.

Health Insurance started off as a catastrophic plan that could be purchased so if Pop got sick; cut off a leg, had a heart attack, stroke, etc; the family wouldn’t lose the farm. It didn’t mean that Pop got to go to his doctor for the sniffles and didn’t have to pay his doctor for that service. However, as time passed, and the attraction for this product grew, more and more people wanted in on the idea. Naturally, the product evolved into what it is today. Co-pays on hospital visits, ER visits, Prescriptions, etc. And that’s great! Capitalism has taken this base product, evolved it into a better product and morphed it into something more AFFORDABLE by the advent of group plans.

At some point along the way, however, this notion went from being a product that saves the farm into a perceived right. Folks, this is not a right of human kind. Health Care is a right, health insurance is not. If you can’t afford health insurance, then why are you less responsible than the next person for paying for the health care services you’ve taken? Just because the Doctor HAS to treat you doesn’t admonish you from having to pay your doctors bill! And it certainly doesn’t mean that someone else is required to pay that bill, unless you buy into a group-plan that we talked about earlier.

The problem in America is that for some reason, people have a regressed into a victim/entitlement mentality and they think they aren’t responsible for themselves, but that someone else should be. This completely fly’s in the face of the basic fabric of the American culture! While I completely blame the general public for taking our country to this point, I know that I must be vocal and outraged at the current Washington Leadership as well as the media and how these issues are presented to the citizens who catch their news on the 2-minutes segments on morning radio, The Daily Show and Saturday Night Live.

We must do better at outreach if we are to ever regain our independence from the Federal Government. I think we must pass an amendment to reverse the 17th amendment  so that our populace focuses on State government more than Federal government. We have to stop looking at our Nation as a country with a federal government, but start looking at it as a country with States who have governments which are a united republic.

If we don’t get there and get there soon, I have a very bleak hope for this country. I hope you will do your part to stand up against the current direction and help lead this nation to the independence which was intended.
