On May 19, I posted a blog concerning a family who was suing a baseball bat manufacturer for injuries sustained by their son during a baseball game. I contended that the baseball bat manufacturer shouldn’t be held liable for an obvious accident and the maker of the bat isn’t responsible for the injury as the bat only hit a ball which hit the child who was pitching.

It goes farther than the aforementioned case in this next story, which is so shocking to hear who these parents are blaming in the case of their child’s death.

The family of a gay teenager who was fatally shot in class blames the school district for allowing their son to wear makeup and feminine clothing to school — factors the family claims led to the death.

The parents and brother of 15-year-old Larry King of Oxnard filed a personal injury claim against the Hueneme school district seeking unspecified damages for not enforcing the dress code, The Ventura County Star reported.

I can’t even begin to state how unbelievably stupid Larry King’s parents are. I know they must be going through a lot with the death of their son, which is a horrible tragedy, but how dare they blame the school district for this murder?

There is one person, and one person alone to blame for the death of this child, and that is the person who killed him. No one else is to blame and no one else is responsible. The parents of this gay teenager also allowed the kid to wear feminine clothes and makeup, so like I posted in the case of the baseball bat manufacturer, they should also complain against themselves. So many times, people want to pass the buck, shift the focus and play at people’s heart-strings. Cases like this make me sick!

Hopefully sanity and rationality will prevail in this case, but like the lady who spilled coffee on herself and won all that money from McDonalds, they probably wont.

Including my Congressman, Jim Cooper, D-TN. I wrote Congressman Cooper a letter a couple of weeks ago concerning energy independence and drilling in the United States and here’s what he sent me:

Dear Mr. Mays:

Thank you for writing to me about our energy needs.

I understand the frustration and anger that comes when we fill up at the pump. Unfortunately, we are suffering the consequences of thirty years of broken energy policy. Congress has failed to provide leadership ever since the oil shocks of the 1970s, and I regret that we did not learn from our earlier experiences to steer towards smarter energy policies.

I do not agree that we can drill our way out of the current energy crisis. It will be years after the moment drilling commences before a single drop of gasoline makes it into a gas tank. Also, regretting
missed opportunities in the 90s, as many have, will not solve the current problem. Instead, we must tackle it with today’s solutions, which means developing alternative energies and greater efficiency.
Drilling at the expense of other solutions will not make us energy independent, or ultimately serve our nation’s best financial and security interests. I also support the recent measures Congress has
taken to ease the financial pain, such as increased funds for mass transit and stricter curbing of speculation.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me. I truly appreciate hearing your concerns.
Sincerely,

Jim Cooper
Member of Congress

I really appreciate Congressman Cooper referring to me appropriately as “Mr. Mays” and seemingly personally replying to me, so I thought I’d have the same consideration and tell him that he’s just wrong on this issue.

Congressman Cooper,

I agree that we have a failed energy policy but respectfully disagree with you that we cannot alleviate the current high cost of oil prices by drilling domestically for more oil. The mere speculation that the Federal Government plans on opening up drilling for more domestic production has dramatically reduced the cost of oil in the United States (See the President’s comments and action of lifting the [Executive Moratorium] on off shore drilling). That being said, I feel as if we should actively look into alternative energy sources but we need immediate action which will impact oil prices and the cost consumers are facing at the pump.

You represent me Congressman Cooper, and as your constituent, I expect you to act now and side with Republicans on opening up drilling in ANWR and off the coasts and I’m 100% sure a majority of the people in your district do as well, as national polls indicate. This issue is important to every American, and if you continue to work for our vote, you will act appropriately on this issue.

You said “It will be years after the moment drilling commences before a single drop of gasoline makes it into a gas tank.” Bill Clinton used that argument when he denied drilling in ANWR in the 90’s stating that it was pointless to drill because it would take 10 years to reap the benefits of that drilling. Congressman Cooper, it’s 10 years later, and this old and decayed way of looking at this issue has gone on for far too long. As I mentioned earlier, the mere speculation of increased domestic production lowers the cost of oil so it’s a bit naive to think that opening drilling won’t decrease the cost of oil.

Thank you for listening to my views and please earn my vote as this is one of the most important issues to me in this upcoming election season.

Sincerely,
Mr. Mays

I doubt I’m going to have any impact on how Jim Cooper votes on this issue but at least I’m doing my duty and informing him of how I feel. Congressman Cooper has always personally replied to my emails, something not a lot of other public officials do, so he’s cool for doing that. What do you guys think about this?

No, not to drugs… Well, yeah, drugs too. But I’m talking about Just Saying No to Exercise! WOO! FINALLY! The beer drinking, couch potato’s shining light from above! It’s called AICAR!

An ‘exercise pill’ that makes the body fit without moving a muscle has been hailed by scientists following stunning test results.

The drug fools the muscles into thinking they have exercised long and hard, rapidly burning fat and boosting fitness.

The couch potato’s dream, it gives the benefits of exercise without leaving the sofa.

Billed as ‘exercise in a pill’, it could combat ills from obesity to muscle-wasting diseases.

Even the frailty of old age could be eased by the drug’s muscle-building powers, the US scientists believe.

Ronald Evans, one of the researchers and a world-leading biologist, said: ”We have exercise in a pill.’.

Professor Evans, of the Salk Institute in California, showed that the drug, which is known as AICAR, boosts fat burning and stamina in inactive mice.

‘Couch-potato’ animals that took AICAR for four weeks burned more calories and had less fat than untreated mice.

And when tested on a treadmill, they could run almost 50 per cent longer than untreated mice.

Effectively, the creatures had become fit without moving a muscle, a feat that Professor Evans said left him ‘blown away’.

‘It is tricking the muscle into “believing” it’s been exercised daily,’ he said.

‘It’s basically the couch-potato experiment and it proves you can have a pharmacological equivalent to exercise.’

A second drug, GW1516, produced even better results - but only in conjunction with regular exercise, the journal Cell reports.

After a month of taking that drug and exercising, mice could run 70 percent further than other mice that had worked out on the treadmill but didn’t get the drug.

‘The dramatic effect of the drug was stunning,’ said the professor.

It is thought the drugs reprogramme the muscles, boosting the number of fat-burning fibres and allowing them to contract repeatedly without tiring.

The study builds on work from four years ago, in which the Californian researchers genetically-engineered ‘marathon mice’ that were able to run twice as far as normal without tiring.

Now, it seems it is possible to create drugs with a similar effect.

The researchers say their work offers hope for the obese, as well as for those with muscle-wasting diseases and people who can’t exercise because of a medical condition like joint pain or heart failure.

Even the frailty of old age could be eased by the drugs’ effect on the muscles.

The drugs’ obvious interest to athletes has led to the development of tests that will detect them in samples of blood or urine.

Importantly, given the obesity crisis, the pills could offer the benefits of exercise to people who can’t find time to fit the gym into their hectic working day.

‘Almost no one gets the recommended 40 minutes to an hour per day of exercise,’ said Professor Evans.

‘For this group of people, if there was a may to mimic exercise, it would make the quality of the exercise that they do more efficient.

‘This might be enough to move people out of the “danger zone” toward a lower risk, healthier set point.

‘By intervening early, you may forestall the emergence of more serious problems.’

But fellow researcher Dr Vihang Narkar cautioned a pill would not be a panacea, saying a healthy diet and exercise are ‘cardinal’ to good health.

AICAR, the version that worked without exercise, is already in advanced human testing to see if it can prevent a complication of heart bypass surgery.

The second drug was being tested as a cholesterol-lowering pill. However, trials were halted over concerns about safety.

British experts welcomed the breakthrough but cautioned the path from the lab to the pharmacy shelf is not always straight forward.

Professor Stephen Bloom, of Imperial College London, said: ‘This was a discovery waiting to be made and it has taken one of the premier institutes in the world and one of the best minds in science to have done it.

‘Even if these particular agents turn out to have side-effects, the proof of principle is still there and we can look forward to someone making something which is safe and effective.’

Dr Colin Waine, of the National Obesity Forum, said: ‘Obesity has reached epidemic proportions and we constantly need to be looking for innovative ways of treating the condition.

‘This research is important, interesting and could ultimately lead to new drug treatments.

‘But anybody with a weight problem shouldn’t be lulled into thinking there is a quick-fix around the corner.

‘At the moment, the mainstay has to be healthy eating and increased physical activity.

My wife is always telling me that I need to work out. Well honey, no need! As soon as this stuff hits the market, I’ll be all over it. Gotta love modern medicine, man!

I kid you not people. I absolutely kid you not. Barack Obama was in a town-hall style event with supporters and addressed energy issues in Springfield, MO. Oh my goodness, I cannot believe how pathetically stupid and absolutely ignorant this man is. Here’s what he said about drilling as a way to lower fuel prices [video at link].

“We could save all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling if everybody was just inflating their tires and getting regular tune-ups. You could save just as much.”

So he thinks that the laws of supply and demand and oil speculation can be solved by inflating our tires more and getting regular tune-ups? The some SIXTY BILLION BARRELS OF OIL we have the potential of getting from ANWR and from drilling off the coasts can be forgotten and aren’t needed as long as we inflate our tires and get regular tune-ups?

I’ve asked this countless times in the past, but how on earth is this man still a contender in the race to become the President? How is this man defensible? Who can support such colossal ignorance? Are Americans really this stupid???

Just what exactly is Barack Obama up to these days? The buzz and speculation swarming around the water cooler is that Obama’s front runner in the nod for the VP is Tim Kaine, a moderately conservative democrat from the state of Virginia. According to ontheissues.org, Kaine is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, anti-abortion, is against a progressive tax system and strong on the war against drugs.

This dude is completely opposite of Barack Obama! This guy has little experience in politics, much like Obama, and doesn’t really shore up any loose ends, which makes VP’s so valuable during a presidential race. What does this tell me?

First thing is first, Kaine is in the lead because Obama has a very strong chance of winning Virginia which hasn’t been carried by a democrat since 1964. Virginia is obviously a conservative state and a conservative-democrat governor from that state on the ticket gives Obama a really strong chance to secure those 13 electoral votes.

Second, and maybe the most serious and real reason is that the swing or independent voters who are currently up in the air about the ‘08 race will look at Kaine and see a more balanced ticket. Whereas Barack Obama is for abortions, some ignorant voter will see that Kaine isn’t and think that actually matters. Or gun control, or taxes, etc, etc, etc. This would be purely a political pick, not based on Kaine’s actual views or positions, but based on the fact that he can get Obama some votes.

Mitt Romney is currently in the lead as the VP nod for McCain because he actually brings some added meat to the ticket. Romney is obviously very strong in economics which shores up a McCain weak point. Romney doesn’t differ with McCain on virtually every issue like Kain does with Obama. Obama is once again showing how abhorrently pathetic and weak he is in politics, and is even more showing that he will do virtually anything possible to get elected. Change and hope? Sounds like the same old Washington politics to me Obama.

I’ve added a couple of things to the site that you might notice. The first is an option for readers to “rate” an individual post. If you like what I wrote, rate it high. If it sucks, let me know about it.

On the side bar, you’ll also notice a new “Poll” feature. I’ll randomly post polls there and ask that you all participate in them. It’s nice to see so many people have voted in my first poll! It does allow for moderation, however I promise not to do that with serious polls I post.

Anyway, I just want people to get more involved in this site, be it commenting or voting so hopefully it will spur that. Any questions or comments, let me know!
